Meet our Doctors & Staff
Doctors of Optometry:
We are a Husband and Wife Optometry Team who met while attending The Ohio State University College of Optometry. GO BUCKS!! We were married and began practicing together in September 1990. Our office has been relocated twice during our years in practice, beginning in Newport then to two locations in Highland Heights very close to the campus of Northern Ky University.
Doug Garbig, O.D.
Dr. Garbig received his doctorate of Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1987 and has been practicing in NKY since. He joined William Schambach, O.D. in his Newport, KY practice immediately after graduation. Dr. Garbig is a member of the Kentucky Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Garbig has traveled to Haiti on three occasions to provide much needed eyecare, prescription eyewear and ministry to hundreds of impoverished Haitian children and adults. He has special interest in contact lenses and disease management.
Kris Kerestan Garbig, O.D.
Dr. Kerestan received her doctorate of Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1990. She joined Dr. Garbig soon after graduatiing and has been in private practice in NKY since. Dr. Kerestan is a very active member of the Kentucky Optometric Association and serves on its Board of Trustees representing the Northern Kentucky Optometric Society. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and its Sports Vision Section. Dr. Kerestan has special interest in the Vision of Children and the detection and treatment of Learning-Related Vision Problems.

Front Office Team
Our very friendly front office team will gather your personal information and make your vision exam appointment when you call the office. When you arrive they will ensure that you receive individualized attention and help you feel comfortable from the moment you walk through the door. Our team includes Roxanne Calhoun, Paula Coyle and Lisa Tyler.
Pretesting and Special Testing Team
This professional team will ensure that they make you feel comfortable while they efficiently gather general health information, eye care information and test results before you see our doctors. They will also perform special testing necessary for the detection and treatment of various eye diseases. Our team includes Jamie Gibson, Kim Brake and Jan Uher.
Fashion Eyewear Designers and Contact Lens Team
This highly trained team will educate you on the most technologically advanced lens options, frame styles and contact lenses available today. They will guide you and help you make the best decisions regarding your eyewear and/or contact lenses. This team includes Dawn Coulter Hicks, Jan Uher and Lisa Tyler.
Children’s Vision Therapy Assistant
Jamie Gibson’s friendly and energetic personality make her the perfect staff member to work with children. She performs all our Visual Perceptual/Processing Testing at FamilyLife Vision Care. Although Jamie has several roles with us she most enjoys the opportunity to work one-on-one with the children.
Insurance Specialists and Billing Team
This organized team will gather and verify your vision and medical insurance benefits before you arrive at our office. Roxanne Calhoun and Paula Coyle utilize their professional experience to ensure that you obtain maximum use of your coverage. Please realize, however, that as the patient, you are ultimately responsible for knowing your coverage and for fulfilling the financial obligation for the services and materials you receive with us.
